Middle school students are special! Explore their specific interests and characteristics, and learn successful strategies for teaching pre-adolescents. Find out how to connect student interests with the curriculum of other content to create the most student engagement possible. Successful activities from three AATG middle school thematic units will be presented.
Presenter: Phyllis Farrar is the World Languages consultant for the Kansas Department of Education. She taught German, grades 7-9 for twenty-two years at a junior high in Lawrence, KS, after starting her career at a high school. After receiving the 2000 AATG K-8 Teacher of the Year award, she served on the Kinder lernen Deutsch committee for a decade, where she was involved in developing thematic middle school units for the AATG Materials Center.
